Dance With The Lady really swings in a 60’s Miles-Coltrane throwback and thrilling way.
TORONTO saxophonist Johnny Griffith is joined by New York trumpeter Jeremy Pelt on this new disc featuring nine Griffith compositions.
That formidable front line is capable of channelling classic jazz roots on tunes such as The Mile Walk and Cinders, or looking forward, as on Syrah.
Pelt is well known as a top soloist and Griffith shines on alto and tenor saxophones throughout. Together they are an imposing pair, but they have teamed up with a stellar rhythm section: pianist Adrean Farrugia, bassist Jon Maharaj and drummer Ethan Ardelli. Farrugia especially stands out as a beautiful soloist and caring accompanist.
Lets hope this quintet can get together again. ****
